in Memory of Curt Strand
Curt Strand designated Aspen Noise as a chosen non-profit organization that he encourages you to support should you choose to make a contribution in his memory.
Curt knew a good thing when he heard one. He believed in the value of Aspen Noise and he was in the front row every time we sang! Not only was Curt our biggest fan, he was also our biggest donor. We are forever grateful for Curt and his impact.
To bring more Love into the world through singing ~ Yep, that’s it.
Created in 2014 by Barbara Lynn Bloemsma, Aspen Noise is a multi-generational, all-inclusive singing group.
The purpose is to include everyone: differently-abled singers, professional singers, shy singers… Everyone! Together we make beautiful sounds.
We meet weekly to share fellowship and to celebrate the joy of music. The whole thing is geared toward the beauty and power of authenticity. Ordinary people making extraordinary noise!
We have performed regularly at Aspen Chapel and throughout the Roaring Fork Valley, including The Sardy House Tree Lighting, Pathfinders, Lead With Love Summit and more.
In 2016, Aspen Noise won the Dan B. Davidson Excellence in Inclusion Award from the Colorado Developmental Disabilities Council. This is the highest award in the state.
We performed in Denver when we accepted the Dan Davidson Award for Excellence in Inclusion from the Colorado Developing Disabilities Council. This is the highest recognition in the state, and in 2016 it was awarded to Aspen Noise!
Aspen Noise, looking forward to our 7th year, continues to meet weekly via Zoom. The e-gatherings are light and meaningful and full of beautiful noises from singing to laughter. Our last in person performance was January 26, 2020. We are working to create a collaborative video (or two or three) that will be live-streamed in 2021! We ask for your support so that we can continue the program.
Here are a few comments from our participants:
“This has given me an opportunity to integrate into the community and to express my voice, and to show people that I am capable of a lot more than what some would expect from a young man with disabilities.”
“Aspen Noise has helped me to feel comfortable communicating with younger people. I think sometimes younger people are put off by older people, and they need to find out that within that older person there is still a child.”
“I hadn’t sung since high school. I found another way of expressing myself that had been quieted for a long time, and that has been a huge gift.”
“I am so, so grateful for this group. In modern day, it can be hard for people to feel community. So here is what we’re doing: we are building community.“
